‘Tis the season to sing of joy and family.... meet Louise Goffin, a true M.O.M {master of multitasking} building a career as a multi- instrumentalist, singer, composer, lyricist, and producer.

Louise Lynn Goffin has lived and breathed music since the day she was born. With a level of excellence in the work her family does, a bar set high by her parents work.

According to Goffin, “Singing is like breathing. Songwriting a spiritual, emotional necessity and it keeps her young. However, producing is brand new to her but she didn’t let that hold her back from producing her mom (Carole King’s) first ever holiday album, ‘A Holiday Carole.’

According to Amazon, Goffin created excellent arrangements and co-wrote three tracks on the album. The mother-daughter duo {Goffin-King} is in the running for best holiday album against pop star Justin Bieber.

M.O.M Katie ~ You’ve had a lot of inspiration growing up to live your dream, what is the most important lesson you’ve learned or have followed building your career?

M.O.M Lousie ~ That other people don't make you who you are. I used to think that I needed a record deal to be an artist, a recording studio to be making a record, a wedding to be in love. It takes more self-belief when the outside props aren't there, and especially for moms who are one minute subservient to the needs of others, and the next exhausted and having to recharge their battery. Over the years I've met people who seem to have the outside affirmation, and yet are more fearful than the people who don't because they've not yet found out they are still who they are with or without kudos from a crowd. Children are the least likely audience to say "yay, job well done!" I have to do it for myself to keep building on my vision.

M.O.M Katie ~ Can you tell us what inspired your to produce you’re Mom’s Album and choosing a Holiday Album?

M.O.M Louise ~ I've always loved being in the recording studio, and making records. By the time she and her (then) manager, Lorna Guess, asked me to produce this holiday record, I'd already recorded five entire albums of my own as a recording artist. I knew a lot about the process of putting an album together. I had some recent losses in my life at the time, and it was the perfect uplifting theme for me to throw myself back into work after primarily focusing on raising my two boys, who are still in elementary school. It did a lot for my confidence to apply my multi-tasking skills at home to an array of musicians, songs, supporting my mother, Carole, in feeling comfortable back in the studio, and listening to my radar as to whether each song was presented in its best form for her to sing over.

What is your favorite song? Having just performed "Christmas In The Air" in Rockefeller Center for the tree lighting, the song being a hat tipper to the Jackson Five arrangements (and being about New York, and EVERYDAY being a gift I get to open up) that's now one of my favorites. I treat all songs on an album as a mother would her own children - every one is special in his/her own unique way. They each have their own calling. This is a great record to give friends and family as a gift as it is so chock-full of great uplifting cuts you wouldn't usually hear on a Christmas record.

M.O.M Katie ~ What can we expect from you in 2012 (as I’m sure you are not ‘laying low’)?

M.O.M Louise~ I hope to lay low between Dec 25th and Jan 1st. Other than that, I plan to write, record and produce new artists. And any ones that have been around for awhile who want to come see me, I'll send some mojo and enthusiasm their way. That's one of my strong suits. Enthusiasm, play, creativity, and empathy for one's artistic nature.

The organizing of the players and recording part is much easier than capturing the lightening bolt of desire and believing it can be done. I'm there to be the believer for the artist and keep excitement and enthusiasm up for making dreams come true.

'Tis The Season To Get Involved ~ Balloon Send Off To Support Canines For Disabled Kids

At MyOwnPet Balloons, we understand the bond between child and pet. Loyalty, friendship and fun create a special connection comparable to few other things. This meaningful interaction helped inspire this MyOwnPet balloon line, allowing children to simulate that experience (using a little imagination!) with any animal, whether penguin, pig or pony.

Canines for Disabled Kids (CDK) is a non-profit organization connecting children with disabilities to canine-assistance programs and resources. The CDK mission is twofold, first, to help families with disabled children obtain service dogs through education, financial aid and advocacy and second, to make families aware that these resources even exist.

There are approximately 52 million Americans with disabilities in the United States and about one percent use service dogs. With a higher demand than supply, canine assistance programs often impose disability or age-specific requirements along with waiting periods of up to 10 years. Children with disabilities under the age of 12 are often the ones denied training assistance dogs.

Seeing the challenge, Canines for Disabled Kids began to bring awareness to families with special need children, encouraging the placement of assistance dogs with these children. Since 1998, CDK has sponsored over 130 assistance dogs and provided services to more than 15,000 individuals.

Canines for Disabled Kids is helping children with disabilities gain independence and participate more fully in society. We want to bring this program to the thousands of families who are unaware that help is out there.

Participating dentists "buy" back kids' Halloween candy at a scheduled event

"Buy" with cash, coupons, toothbrushes, creative exchanges - They can partner with local businesses to give away coupons for food, services, goods, etc. They can give away the Hygiene Kits, they can set up an Opportunity Prize--each kid gets a ticket per pound of candy for an opportunity drawing to win special prizes, etc.

As we have previously featured and interviewed, this Super M.O.M, Ali Landry never ceases to amaze us.

A M.O.M indeed, we are truly inspired by her ambitions. She is continuing to grow her Belle Parish line and is also supporting other moms by bringing awareness to Red CARpet Safety Events . She just recently announced the new amazing site Spokesmoms.com as well.

As you will read below, she is also a working actress and is doing so while expecting baby #2 any day now!

(Mexico) -- Ali Landry shoots scenes from her latest film “Little Boy” in Mexico this past week while 9 months pregnant (due this month).

The hard working mom, who makes balancing it all look easy (with 4-year-old daughter Estela on set), plays an expecting mother whose husband is away at war.

The film, slated for a 2012 release, also stars Emily Watson, Kevin James, Michael Rapaport, Tom Wilkenson and is directed by Landry’s husband, Alejandro Monteverde.

She even tweets while onset "Maternity clothes in the 1940's, we sure have come a long way!"

Now, how does she stay hydrated and have this M.O.M energy? Ali drinks lots of liquids (including Gatorade & Vita Coco) and of course,continues to maintain a healthy diet and rests between takes.

What it is: An old table receives a fresh start as an office on wheels.

How to make it: Choose a table the width of a standard hanging file, then sand, prime, and paint it. Screw metal strips to the sides to accommodate hanging files, use a jigsaw to cut holes in the top for glasses or small storage buckets, and attach casters to the legs

This could also double as a craft cart for the kids!

M.O.M Katie ~ Wow, what a great product and business! For us Yoga novices, can you help explain the benefits of doing Yoga? As a M.O.M, can we fit in a Yoga routine with limited time to ensure the benefits?

M.O.M Elizabeth ~ Thank you Katie for helping me share more yoga with the world! Yoga first came into my life in ‘97 when I started practicing at a local gym, and it has been changing my life ever since. I think that class was the first time I was asked to pay attention to what was going on inside of my body. Just think about it, “How often do you really check in with your heart, your breath or your stomach?” Unless I was at the doctor’s office, all of my attention was placed on what was happening outside of my body. Although learning to shift my attention inward during yoga was a new concept for me, it took no time at all to learn that focusing on what was happening inside was the key for managing my world on the outside.

Yoga offers balance to every system in your body. Through poses, meditation and breathing techniques, yoga provides physical, emotional, and mental balance. What Mom doesn’t need a little of that each day? I can guarantee yoga is stronger than your favorite latté!

Each morning, I spend just 15 minutes on my yoga mat. I roll out my children’s mats beside mine and they know that they are always invited to join me. Gracie, my 3 year old, typically sits on my lap while I practice my breathing… this is one of my favorite moments of the day. I follow my breathwork with a few poses that I need that day: sometimes strengthening, sometimes relaxing. The key is listening to what I need and giving myself exactly that—a little something we could all use practice with, on and off the mat. Sometimes I just breathe with Gracie, and that is perfect.

M.O.M Katie ~ Tell us about how you came up with the concept of the Stretch What Matters Yoga System. When was your 'a-ha' moment?

M.O.M. Elizabeth ~ I had been teaching yoga to individuals with special needs for quite some time and I often struggled with successfully cuing my students on how to transition from one pose to another. I found myself on my students' yoga mats most of the time and this went against everything I hoped to give each of my students - independence. If my goal was to teach people to use yoga to regulate themselves, how in the world were they going to do it on their own if I was always physically showing them what to do?

That is where THE MAT (link to http://www.stretchwhatmatters.com/ ) comes in. After I saw the picture of the yoga mat in my mind, I quickly placed my then 1-year-old daughter, Gracie, in her crib for the night and began sketching the yoga mat on sheets of paper using my son, Christian's, Crayola crayons. The more I drew the more I thought, this mat must already exist. So I began searching for the mat online. After sharing the idea with my blessing of a husband, Scott I shared the idea with my mom. I asked her to sign the 'inventor's notebook' that I had started shortly after I realized the product was not available. I recall asking her to drive with me to the paint store so that she could sit with my children in the car while I found paints that would make up the first prototype of my mat.

M.O.M Katie ~ As a M.O.M, does yoga help you balance it all?

M.O.M. Elizabeth ~ Absolutely. My morning yoga ritual allows me set my intention for my day – being a mindful mom and wife feels a whole lot happier and healthier than the robot version!

My children motivate me to get on my mat… I love knowing that they are seeing mommy take care of herself physically, emotionally and for free. Isn’t that the greatest gift we can give to our children?

M.O.M Katie ~ You also work with Special Needs Children, how will or does Yoga and your system benefit those with needs?

M.O.M. Elizabeth ~ I was a classroom teacher for 15 years. I regulated my students’ behaviors. I was often praised by my colleagues for having great classroom management skills. Looking back, I can see how I managed behaviors very well but I often failed to teach children to identify and manage their own behaviors.

Practicing yoga allows students to learn how to go become aware of their bodies, thought patterns, stress triggers. The yoga system allows learners to identify, manage, and prevent stress on their own.

M.O.M Katie ~ Thank you again for introducing us to your amazing product. Do you have any advice for other (m.o.m)preneurs developing a product and taking it to market? Anything you learned that was unexpected?

M.O.M. Elizabeth ~ Something I learned is that creating a clearly defined work/play schedule is critical for the success of my business and my family. When I place too much attention on my business, I feel the absence of the joy I receive when I spend time with my family. When I feel balanced, I truly see how the love for and from my family feeds my creative energy and positive business sense.

Meet our M.O.Ms and 'Pickers', Tracy & Tanya

Tracy Hutson has been a stylist and designer since 1999, when she started her own Los Angeles-based design business. In 2003, she became part of the design team and one of the original consultants on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Hutson can often be found shopping in antique and specialty stores, or tapping into her extensive network of experts to find that “just perfect” piece of furniture, fabric or accessory. Her "there-are-no-rules" style and attitude have made her one of the most sought after designers in the Los Angeles area for clients who seek creative and individual decorating style.
Growing up in Dallas, Texas, Hutson started doing fashion print work for a major modeling agency. She moved to Los Angeles to broaden her career in the entertainment industry and pursue her fascination with design concepts. She has appeared in numerous national television commercials and sitcoms including "Damaged Goods" and "Less Than Perfect." Her film roles include "Mixed Signals," "Endsville" and "Rated X," starring Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen. She’s also starred in a few theatre productions.

Tracy also wrote the book "Feathering the Nest: Tracy Hutson’s Earth-Friendly Guide to Decorating Your Baby’s Room." Her home accessory line was also introduced on QVC.

Tanya McQueen is a proud Texas native and a Southern girl through and through. In fact, she still splits her time between Los Angeles and the tiny town of 3,000 where she was born and raised.
It was there that Tanya discovered her love of design and transformation, starting a business restoring and flipping historic homes. And it was while she was running that business that Hollywood discovered Tanya. She was asked to appear on the television show “Property Ladder” and then was tapped to join the Design Team on the hit series “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Television allowed Tanya to combine her passions, transforming lives and spaces while entertaining millions of viewers every week. And today, Tanya is thrilled to be a little bit of everything: designer, entrepreneur, television host, mother and wife.

Tanya lives a life as eclectic and original as her tastes. OTHER TIMES, IT'S LIKE A DEBATE MATCH ABOUT WHY THIS HUNK OF RUSTED METAL IS MORE DESIGN WORTHY THAN THE OTHER THINGS WE'VE SEEN. THE TRUTH IS , IT'S JUST SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO PRACTICE TO GET THE JUICES FLOWING. WE LIVE IN A WORLD, WHERE WE'RE NOT USED TO BEING RESOURCEFUL. WE LIVE THROUGH INSTANT GRATIFICATION. THE TRUTH IS, ONCE YOU START ALLOWING YOURSELF TO LOOK IN TO A TRASH PILE WITH ARTISTIC VISION AND ON A MISSION FOR DESIGN, YOU START SEEING IT. I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE DOWN THE DANG ROAD WITHOUT PULLING OVER TO GRAB SOME DISCARDED PIECE OF JUNK. IT'S VERY ADDICTING--BEWARE.

M.O.M Katie ~ As you both seem to tackle and manage busy careers, is starting a retail business what you expected? What has been the most challenging process or what piece of advice would you offer for us M.O.Ms looking to start a business especially in retail?

WE WENT ABOUT THIS IN A FAIRLY UNCONVENTIONAL WAY. BETWEEN THE TWO OF US, WE HAVE SIX KIDS, TWO TELEVISION CAREERS, TWO EX-HUSBANDS, ONE HUSBAND AND MANY CRAZY CREATIVE DESIRES FOR OTHER THINGS FLYING AROUND OUR HEADS. SO, NEEDLESS TO SAY, THERE IS NOT A LOT OF TIME TO SQUANDER AWAY. WHEN WE WERE THINKING ABOUT OUR STORE, WE WERE THINKING TIME, MONEY AND BRAND. WE DECIDED TO OPEN A VERY UNCONVENTIONAL RETAIL SPACE. OUR STORE IS A POP-UP SHOP. IT ALLOWS US TO OPEN WHEN WE HAVE A FULL COLLECTION, MEET OUR CLIENTS, CREATE VIGNETTES AND SELL OUR PIECES WHILE NOT GETTING LOST IN A YEAR LONG LEASE. WE LOVE THE IDEA OF POP UPS. I THINK THEY ARE A VERY ENTREPRENEURIAL WAY TO HAVE A BUSINESS. WE NEVER WANTED A STORE THAT SOLD A BUNCH OF THINGS THAT WE BOUGHT WHOLESALE AND SOLD FOR RETAIL. OUR VISION WAS A STORE THAT ALLOWED US TO DISPLAY COLLECTIONS OF ALL OUR DESIGNS. IT'S DEFINITELY WORKING FOR US.

M.O.M Katie ~ What do you want 'Picker Sisters' to show viewers? What inspired you to do the show while opening up the shop?

I HOPE THE SHOW INSPIRES PEOPLE TO GET OUT THERE AND DO WHAT THEY LOVE. WE BOTH APPEAR AS OVERLY CONFIDENT AND HARDCORE GALS, WHICH WE ARE, BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY A SIDE OF US THAT LET'S FEAR REAR IT'S UGLY HEAD. WE WANT TO SHOW WOMEN THAT ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. Taste It Thursday ~ Take a Sweet Break With Firefly Confections

What is your best advice for M.O.Ms who want to bake (cookies/cake/cupcakes) from scratch?

It’s really not as intimidating as you might think. If you find a great recipe and have the ingredients stocked, it doesn’t take that much longer to get a home-made cupcake or cookie.

Okay, it takes longer than break and bake, but it’s also more rewarding. (If I’m going to eat the extra calories, I want it to be worth it!)

What is the key to decorating?

Practice. I used to work at a bakery and when it was slow the decorators used to have us practice writing Happy Birthday, over and over again until it was legible. Once you can write Happy Birthday, and pipe a border, you can pretty much make any cake look professional.

Kitchen must-have or book ‘to cook by’

My must haves – disposable decorating bags (because the clean-up is the worst part of decorating), a large French tip (found at Bake it Pretty http://www.bakeitpretty.com/products/French-Giant-Pastry-Tip.html) it will make any cupcake look pretty, and Pure Vanilla extract – if you’re going to bake from scratch use real, not imitation, flavor!

Recipe for our M.O.Ms to Enjoy

Amy Sedaris's Vanilla Cupcakes

Ingredients
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (room temp)
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 cups milk

Directions
Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees F.

Put butter in mixer and beat at medium speed until somewhat smooth. Pour in sugar and beat well. Add 2 eggs. Mix well.

Add: vanilla, baking powder, salt, flour, and milk. Beat until it looks like it is supposed to and pour into individual baking cups, until they are about 2/3 full.

Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Should produce 18- 24 cupcakes

Confetti Cakes Cupcake Frosting Recipe (my favorite):

Ingredients:

Unsalted butter – 1 cup (2 sticks; 8 ounces)
Confectioners’ sugar – 8 cups (28 ounces)
Milk – 1/2 cup (4 ounces)
Pure vanilla extract – 2 tablespoons (I also add the seeds from one vanilla bean because I like the little specks)

Directions:
In the bowl of a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, breathe the butter on medium with speed until smooth.

Turn the mixer to low speed and add 1 cup of the confectioners’ sugar and beat until combined. Scrape the bowl thoroughly.

In a small bowl, combine the milk and the vanilla.

Add to the butter-sugar mixture. Set the mixer to medium speed and beat until light and fluffy.

Gradually add the remaining confectioners’ sugar, adding as much as you need to achieve a smooth and stiff consistency.

Use immediately, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 10 days.

What To Wear Wednesdays ~ Fall Into The Program M.O.Ms

Lady and the Tramp…

How can both the hard handle hand bag, sheath dresses and frilly blouses with longer pencil skirts be so popular for fall and yet, leather, black lace and patterned hose with peep toe booties be attending the same fashionable event of the season? Is it an R rated version of Lady and the Tramp? No it’s the same reason I crave candy corns and salted peanuts as a Fall snack (oh you have to try it!)…why Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were invented and why pink and red are dating each other this season too! There are fashion rules like: wearing white after Labor Day, hose and open toe shoes and shearling UGGS in temperatures over 50 degrees….but then there are the rules that designers push the envelope with….hence the invention of Carrie Bradshaw, need I say more? Some times the rules simply agree to disagree for a season!

Go ahead for this season and “fall” into the game of good vs evil, Kate Middleton vs Meghan Fox. Don’t pick a team, be a fair weather fan and cheer for both sides, there is no home fashion advantage!

*Get the Midas touch with GOLD eye shadow or GOLD dress vs just add a GOLD clutch to a black dress or paint your nails a shade, with the price of gold climbing get the plated polish

*Nana’s birthstone ring coming to mind with all the jewel tones? Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires disguised in sheep clothing not your statement? Go for the subtle approach with a statement piece; big stone broche, clutch or shoes get the point across without everyone knowing you were born in January!

*Enjoy your “vino” even more now that Bordeaux, Merlot and Pinot Noir are 90 point hues for the season! Can’t swallow the entire glass of wool on a burnt red overcoat? Take a sip of just the skirt or even the luscious hint of wine stained lips…just enough to get a good buzz!

*Now how to rock leather can be a bit tighter of a fit! The only leather on your backside is the seat in your SUV? Drive “back to the future” in a Delorean and grab that short leather jacket and put it over a strapless dress you haven’t worn since a college era wedding.

*What I’m dishing out as your must have for Fall will be the peep toe bootie, comes in 31 flavors from every color, to cone height and some even have sprinkles….it’s the scoop so take a lick!

M.O.M Katie ~With all your M.O.M skills and working career, was writing a book more difficult to multitask doing ? How did you compose your thoughts while managing daily life as a mom?

M.O.M Denise ~I wrote the book while my girls were at school and when they went to bed. I needed the quiet time to stay focused.

M.O.M Katie ~Did your girls play a role in pursuing writing a book and sharing your experiences?

M.O.M Denise ~I honestly was inspired to write my book from all the lovely messages on twitter and women coming up to me asking how I got through a difficult time. I wanted to share my feelings during that and give hope to those who feel there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel. I definitely thought of my girls while writing and different areas of the book I know I will have to get into greater detail with them when the time is right.

M.O.M Katie ~What's your favorite chapter and what does this chapter mean for you?

M.O.M Denise ~My favorite chapter is loss..About losing my mom. That was the hardest chapter and took the longest for me to write. I had a flight to NY and was working on it, I started crying on the plane and had to put it down. It was difficult.

M.O.M Katie ~What do you want your readers to feel and know after they read the final chapter?

M.O.M Denise ~I think that I want them to read the final chapter and know it's ok to make mistakes, just keep moving forward. We have one life and it's short. During the dark times, try and pick yourself up and keep the faith.

Celebrity M.O.M Sasha Alexander ~ A Better Planner Now That She Is A Mom

M.O.M Katie ~ Now that you are a mom of 5 year old daughter (Lucia) and infant son (Leonardo), was it hard to go back to work after having your kids? Did your career priorities change when you became a mom this time or the first time?

M.O.M Sasha ~It's always hard to leave my children to go to work. Especially when they are babies. But I'm grateful to be able to do what I love and that helps when the guilt sets in. I changed my priorities entirely after having Lucia. I didn't want to work on a Series where I was the lead shooting 11 months out of the year. I preferred films that had shorter shooting schedules or cable television so i could be close to home. I also got pickier about the subject matters. I wanted to choose projects that inspired me enough to be away from my children and that if they saw one day, I wouldn't be embarrassed of.

M.O.M Katie ~ As a M.O.M we wear many ‘hats’, so how do you stay focused and driven? Are you a planner? a Scheduler? Or do you see what the day brings?

M.O.M Sasha ~I learned to be a better planner once I had my first child. It didn't come easy for me. I am a very spontaneous person and it's one of the joys of life for me to just be able to wing it at the last second. But with kids, that doesn't work so much. So I learned a lot from my girlfriends with kids about how to manage things. I asked a lot of questions, got different answers and applied the ones that worked for me. I am much more of a planner now and I've learned to find comfort in it. But I still like to keep Sundays as a free for all day, just in case something unplanned can happen.

M.O.M Katie ~ What have you found to be your biggest M.O.M struggle? Any advice for us M.O.M.s on how you handle it?

M.O.M Sasha ~Finding quiet time for myself. It's so hard between working long hours and then taking care of the family. I just do my best to do one thing for me every now and then and tell my family that it has to happen, or else, I won't be a happy mommy. Either dinner with a girlfriend, a massage, whatever I may need. I just work it into a time that I think Is best. Even an hour is enough sometimes!M

M.O.M Katie ~ Congrat’s on Rizzoli & Isles! It is such a great show and we love seeing you back on TV regularly. So,how does this role compare to your previous roles? What can we expect from Ms Maura Isles this season?

M.O.M Sasha ~I've had so many great roles, but Maura is so fun to play because she has such an unusual eccentricity and intelligence. She makes me laugh and I never know what to expect. Plus, she has the best wardrobe, so it's fun to get to dress up, of course! This season, we will meet lots of fun men in her life and get to meet her mother, played by the lovely Jacqueline Bisset. We will learn more about her upbringing and how it has made her who she is...

What is your best advice for M.O.Ms who want to plan a healthy family meal?

My best advice for cooking a healthy family meal is to get everyone involved. The more kids participate the more likely you will find your picky eater to try something new or finish their veggies. My almost three year old gets so excited to cook with me and the difference it has made in her eating habits is outstanding. I even get her involved in the grocery shopping. Her latest endeavor, brussels sprouts, were a successes if that tells you anything. I also suggest starting early the moment your baby starts solid foods. Give them all of the fresh foods and flavor combinations to start them on the road to healthy eating habits.

What is the key to prep meals for the week?

My key to meal prep is to plan and keep a well stocked kitchen! It might not always work out the way you want it to but I find if I plan 3 to 4 meals a week it keeps us on track to have family meals together.

Kitchen must-have or book ‘to cook by’

I can't live without three things in my kitchen. No make that four. I have to have two high quality knives (a pairing knife and a big ol' chopping knife), my food processor, a microplaner (for zest, nutmeg and garlic), and my iPod.

Recipe for our M.O.Ms to Enjoy

Rosemary and Garlic Roasted Salmon and Roasted Green Beans serves 4

Ingredients:

· 3 garlic cloves

· 2 fresh rosemary sprigs, about 1 Tbs chopped

· 1 1/2 to 2 lbs Sockeye salmon fillet

· 1 Tbs extra virgin olive oil

· 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

· pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 425° F. Peel and finely chop garlic. Set aside.

Chop the rosemary. Set aside.

Place salmon on a foil lined baking sheet.

Distribute olive oil evenly on salmon.

Next, add salt, pepper, garlic and rosemary over the fillet.

Roasted Green Beans

1 pound green beans, washed dried and snapped

1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Place the green beans in a large bowl. Add the olive oil, salt and pepper and mix to coat the green beans.

Place on a baking sheet or oven safe dish.

Place the green beans and salmon in the oven and roast for 10 to 12 minutes until the salmon is flaky and green beans are tender.

Serve with cooked rice and enjoy!

Celebrity Mom Constance Marie ~ Certifiable M.O.M

Constance Marie is best known for her role as the hard-working and devoted wife, Angie, in "George Lopez," for which The Imagen Awards honored her with a Best Actress in a TV Series Award and a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. As M.O.Ms, women and parents, we have come to follow and admire Constance Marie off-screen as well. Marie recently welcomed her first child into the world, Luna Marie Katich. Candid about the difficulties she faced trying to get pregnant and eventually turning to IVF, Marie is determined to reach out to women in similar situations to let them know that they are not alone. In addition to being extremely knowledgeable about pregnancy wellness, she is a vegetarian and organic follower, and also practices a green lifestyle, decorating her daughter's nursery with completely organic and non-toxic materials. M.O.M ~ So, you are now tackling being mom of a toddler and managing life with relationships and work. You clearly knew how to multitask prior to having Luna with your career, so how has the juggling changed now that her schedule and priorities are added into the equation?

M.O.M CM ~ Honey can we talk??? How has it changed... in every single way... because now i have the inner emotional battle of not wantin to work.. because my baby is sad or frustrated.. or actually says "DON'T GO TO WORK!" or my least favorite "Mama I am sad,," I try to do my work SMARTER AND FASTER... so I can be with her more... I used to hear about how parents would crave a break, and then when they got the break they wanted to be with their kid, I used to think they were crazy!....Well. I now know EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE TALKIN ABOUT!

M.O.M ~ What would you say is the one thing you learned and learned quickly to conquer as M.O.M (master of multitasking)?

M.O.M CM ~ I LEARNED that a few perfectly timed photos sent via blackberry can change a little girls mood, and give a nanny a much needed break in grumpiness.

M.O.M ~ With your open struggles to conceive and become a mom, was the decision to continue working or not to continue working after having Luna a discussion? Trying to balance this and accomplishing both is the biggest struggle us M.O.Ms face.

M.O.M CM ~ Honesty, I was raised by a single working mom. I don't really know how else to be. I just always need to make sure the balance does not get off with too much work. I really truly LOVE being a mom! I know I am a better one if I am fufilled by what I accomplish... I also want to be a good example for my daughter on how to be a woman it the world. I WILL make mistakes,but hopefully too many.

M.O.M ~ Now that you are working on a new series with ABC Family called Switched At Birth, how has Luna adjusted to mommy’s new schedule? Do you think our kids adjust better to the change than we(parents) do?

M.O.M CM ~ Re: Switched at Birth and scheduling: It was really difficult at first for Luna Marie..She didn't understand.. where I would go. I pretty much did not work for 2years so it was a big adjustment...I kept reminding myself that most moms don't get that much time. and hopefully i had logged in enough mommy hours that she knew and felt I loved her... It was so hard for me too... But I knew if I made it harder on her by saying long dramatic goodbyes, I would regret it. I also made a Mommy goes to work book. It was a little book with photos that explained how mommy 1) got in a car,2) rehearsed lines with other actors, 3) did make up and hair 4) played in front of a camera and last but so not least 5) WOULD ALWAYS COME HOME TO LUNA MARIE! That book somehow made her feel better, like she understood the process.

M.O.M ~ Tell us about Switched at Birth that premiered this month.

M.O.M CM ~ I am truly proud of this project... I has SO much heart and it is really about the family relationships and dynamic. Something parents can watch with their kids. Often times projects are either for only parents or only kids.. this truly is for both!... I also feel i understand that better and feel like a better actor now that i am a mother.. I think when Luna Marie is older I would be really interested in her opinion! She's only two and doesn't watch tv so, we got a while to go. I am also proud of that fact that it is groundbreaking in its potrayal of deaf characters. Here they get to be the leads of a show funny, strong, full bodied. The sign language aspect is sooooooo cool!

Let’s hear about your 3 favorite MOMents as M.O.M

three favorite moments.. and a multitasking mom. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

A) My daughter say's to me Mommy my tummy hurts, I gotta go poo poo... Just as the phone rings and it is my agents... I pick up and talk, pretend that all is fine, and they are telling me about an appointment.. while I walk my lil' girl to the potty. I sit her down and she says her tummy hurts again... I cover the phone and say " you will feel better when the poo poo comes out" to which she says "Mommy i need a hug"... so, tell my agents "Can u hold on one sec?" then I bend down on next to her little potty and for a quick hug but she has me tight and won't let go, and at that exact moment.. she lets it rip! Glamorous right?

B) Honestly, i have no other's to top that.... do I get extra credit for it being about poop?

Ha- Yes, this is a M.O.Memt for sure!!!

With Father's Day this weekend, Toni's Dinner Made Simple Chicken Dijon will surely put a smile on Dad's Face!!

What is your best advice for M.O.Ms who want to plan a healthy family meal?

When it comes to healthy meals, I believe fresh is best, but keep your pantry stocked with basic food items and that will transform a few fresh ingredients into a full meal. Staples like beans, rice, and pasta are the makings of great side dishes, and creating tasty main dishes is easy if your pantry includes variety of herbs & spices (basil, oregano, tarragon), canned items (tomatoes, artichokes, coconut milk), condiments (mustard, soy sauce, Worcestershire), and broths (chicken, beef, vegetable).

What is the key to prep meals for the week?

I use the same technique in my home kitchen when I’m feeding my own family of five as I use in the commercial kitchen when I’m making hundreds of servings for my clients--mise en place. Mise en place is a French term meaning “everything in place.” It can be simply gathering all of the ingredients needed to make your dinner meals before you start cooking. You can take it one step further and measure and prep (chop slice, grate) each ingredient as called for in the recipe. There’s nothing worse than starting to cook a meal and realizing that you’ve run out of “this” or you don’t have enough “that”. This simple technique has saved me many times.

Kitchen must-have or book ‘to cook by’

A good knife—not necessarily an expensive one, but one that feels comfortable in your hand is a kitchen must-have. Keep it sharpened and honed and it will be the best tool in your kitchen.

Recipe for our M.O.Ms to Enjoy

This recipe is simple enough for a weekday meal and impressive enough to serve to guests.

Chicken Dijon

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped

1/2 cup dry white wine
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

1/2 cup half & half
1/2 teaspoon fresh rosemary, minced (1/4 tsp dry)

1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, minced (1/4 tsp dry)

Pound chicken breasts flat (about 1/4 inch thickness). Season with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté chicken in a single layer, (do this in batches if necessary) until lightly browned on both sides. Remove chicken from skillet as it is done and place on a platter or baking sheet. Place in a warm oven or cover with foil to keep warm.

Lower heat a bit and add more oil if necessary. Add onion and cook until tender and translucent. Stir occasionally. Add wine and mustard and simmer until the mixture is reduced by one-half. Add half & half, rosemary and thyme. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Simmer until sauce is thick enough to coat a spoon. Remove from heat and serve over chicken.

Timesaver: Buy thinly sliced chicken cutlets that don’t need pounding. These will only need to cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side.

Variation: For a smooth sauce, strain the sauce through a sieve just before serving.

Serves 4

M.O.M to Mention, Sarah Siegel-Magness

Sarah Siegel-Magness, the producer of the Oscar nominated film Precious and this summer's children's movie Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer premiering Friday and most importantly, the mother of two!

Sarah spent almost every day on the set of Precious and was involved with decisions from casting to script changes. Together, Sarah and her husband, Gary founded Smokewood Entertainment which aims to produce films with positive message for diverse audiences. Upcoming projects include motion picture and television projects based on Megan McDonald’s Judy Moody young adult book series and a documentary following an indigenous tribe in Brazil and its effort to become self-sufficient.

Sarah is a native of Colorado and following a brief career in the music industry, she launched So Low, a young women’s clothing line, which she still operates today. The line is sold at upscale retailers nationwide.

Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to be nominated for the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award’ at age 30, and become active in the Young Entrepreneurs Organization, a global nonprofit education organization.

Sarah manages all of this while keeping her favorite role, motherhood, first.

M.O.M ~As you truly have defined ‘today’s working mother & MOMpreneur’, what advice can you give to those mom’s struggling with going back to work after becoming a mom?

M.O.M Sarah ~ My advice to all you working mom's is to remember that a happy mom means a happy family. If working is something you love to do then your children will benefit from your happiness. It can be difficult at times to balance family and business but really trying to enjoy and making the most of the time you have with your children, when you are not working, is important. It is not the length of time but the quality of time that counts.

M.O.M ~ It seems you were born with an Entrepreneurial spirit, building successful companies at a very early age, We are so inspired by your entrepreneurial vision and success, what tip would you offer any M.O.Ms out there looking to explore their entrepreneurial side?

M.O.M Sarah ~ My motto is no idea is a bad idea. I like to look for ideas that are organically created from things missing in my life. Once you have an idea, take it step by step. Envisioning too far in the future can be overwhelming. Just start with one foot in front of the other and keep going.

M.O.M ~ As you know, it’s tough being a M.O.M (master of multitasking), how have you been able to juggle and balance it all? Does it get easier?

M.O.M Sarah ~ A mom can never really be an expert at any one thing. We just have to do the best we can at everything we do. I say that if at the end of each day a mom gives every task 110 percent we cannot be upset by the result. I think being a mom makes a woman balanced, because being pulled in so many directions makes it impossible to be one dimensional. I love being a mom, it keeps me young.

M.O.M ~ So you have two different passions right now, Fashion with your company So Low and Film with your company Smokewood Entertainment. Which industry would you say is tougher to crack into for a budding entrepreur with the same passions?

M.O.M Sarah ~ To be honest, they both are extremely difficult to be involved in. Fashion and film are highly competitive, financially demanding and very creative. The good thing is that woman are still the minority in both of these industries and there is plenty of room for more. So I say don't look at the hurdles of a business, jump and explore.

M.O.M ~ What can we expect from our M.O.M Sarah in 2011?

M.O.M Sarah ~ First and foremost I will continue to work on being the best mom I can be. I am directing my first feature film, which is a very exciting opportunity to learn and grow from. I am working on my fashion business and learning to navigate through this very difficult financial time. Produced by Bell and written by her husband Adam Beason, Bell plays a happy suburban wife and mother who is forced to reveal her dark past as a military-trained special-ops agent when her husband is mysteriously kidnapped.

Bell’s other credits include guest starring roles on the television shows “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Friends,” “Dream On,” “Misery Loves Company” and “Hercules.” She appeared in the CBS telefilm “Cab to Canada” opposite Maureen O’Hara. Bell also starred in the TBS thriller “The Time Shifters” opposite Martin Sheen.

Bell also recently starred in and produced the television movie “The Good Witch’s Gift” for The Hallmark Channel. The series' fourth installment, “The Good Witch's Family” will premiere on November 5, 2011. Prior to that, she starred in the television movie “Still Small Voices” for Lifetime’s sister cable network LMN. Bell also appeared on the SyFy miniseries "The Triangle,” produced by Bryan Singer and Dean Devlin.

Her feature film credits include an appearance as the sassy siren in Universal’s mega-hit “Bruce Almighty” opposite Jim Carrey. Bell reprised her role opposite Steve Carrell in the sequel, “Evan Almighty.” Additionally, she was in the feature film “Men of War” opposite Dolph Lundgren.

Bell was born in London and moved to Los Angeles with her family at the young age of three. While studying biomedical engineering at UCLA, Bell ventured into modeling, which soon led to immediate recognition in both the United States and overseas. Building on her success as a model, Bell decided to pursue an acting career, which was launched soon thereafter. Bell currently resides in South Carolina with husband Adam, daughter Gemma and their son Ronan.

Congratulations on so much, the successful Lifetime series Army Wives and your expanded family! It’s hard to believe Ronan is going to be 1 this summer already (I’m sure you can’t either).

Its crazy! I was JUST pregnant. Now he's crawling.. walking soon I'm sure!

As most of us M.O.M’s struggle with being a working parent, was it harder for you to go back to work after you had Gemma or the second time around with Ronan? Any insight in how you prepare for the first day back at work with a baby?

I think it's always a hard thing to try and strike a balance between work & family. One hand, we want a break from the kids so we can come back with a fresh perspective but then the second we part with them, we miss them! I think just reminding myself that it's good for him AND for me to have a little break, to have someone else watch him... that helps!

What’s a typical day like for you and the family these days with two kids and filming? Are you a planner or just ‘wing it’ with schedules?

On the weekends we usually just wing it. We usually have a general idea like bike ride in the neighborhood & then it either happens in the morning or afternoon or Saturday or Sunday... nothing too definite! I try to leave time for the kids to just do what they want - art projects or swimming or whatever they want! We love going to my mom & step-dads house on the weekends too. They moved to Charleston to be closer to us, so we love spending time there.

So, what do you love about playing Denise Sherwood on Lifetimes’ Army Wives? Does this season have any surprises for you or the other Army Wives?

I love so much about Denise Sherwood! I especially love how much she's grown! She's been through so much and changed (for the better as a person, as wife, even as a mother despite her loss). She's certainly had enough surprises to last a lifetime! But there is never a shortage of exciting realistic drama on our show!

With actress, mother, philanthropist and producer on your M.O.M resume, what is your secret to managing it all? Is there anything else you might be interesting in throwing into the mix or have you accomplished what you’ve dreamed?

I've never "accomplished everything." I have goals & reach those & make new ones! That's what life is all about! I'm so proud to add producer to my resume. Actress, mom, philanthropist have always been on it & I continue adding to that. I'd like to continue finding great stories to tell & making those movies.

I will say it was pretty hilarious one morning after working all night on Last Man Standing (Ronan was about 10 weeks old) I'd spent the whole night doing a huge fight scene/stunt work and at 6am on the drive back to the hotel, I was pumping milk (I was still nursing!), while I was learning my lines for the next day. That was exciting

Another fun one: feeding the baby while I cooked dinner for my daughter Gemma while my husband Adam was out of town & did a conference call on a project!

When I was getting ready to film "Last Man Standing," I had Ronan in a sling, was on the treadmill and was working on my script for that days work.never a dull moment! :)

What is your best advice for planning a party?

The first advice I always offer is to pick a theme for your party - even if it's as simple as a color palette or stylish paper pattern that you’d like to include in the design. This one simple thing will make the entire planning process SO much easier! It's amazing how overwhelmed you can feel once you start searching for ideas regarding food, drinks, decor, invitations, and more. There’s so much out there, so having a like specific theme in mind to help narrow down your options and focus your efforts will be a serious time saver! I also recommend going with a theme that you truly love so that you feel creatively inspired & excited by the planning process, especially if the party is something you're incorporating into an already busy everyday life – which is the norm for most moms!

What is the key to being a good host?

Your primary role as host or hostess is hospitality! This means making your guests feel comfortable and doing what you can to ensure they feel welcome and important. This includes things like introducing guests to each other and helping them strike up conversations (especially for guests that don't know many other people at the part

y), creating an inviting ambiance for them to socialize in, and greeting each guest personally, shortly after they arrive. I also like to make sure that guests receive a drink right away – either by handing them a pre-mixed signature cocktail (or mocktail) or walking them over to the bar or drinks area. It always makes people feel more comfortable when they have something to hold on to!

Must-have entertaining/party accessory that can be used for any/all occasions.

That's a tough one to narrow down… but I definitely get great use out of my pillar candleholders and pretty much every event… and they hardly ever hold candles! :) I usually attach plates to the tops of them to repurpose them as pedestals/risers/stands for everything from appetizers to desserts to decor. They're a super easy (and affordable) way to add different levels of height to a food or dessert table, without having to purchase a bunch of specialty footed serving dishes and cake platters.

Best Hostess Gift

I know it's cliche, but you just can't go wrong with (thoughtfully chosen) wine… and it's always best to give hostesses something you know they'll really enjoy! To give your wine a creative twist, choose one with a unique or especially stylish label… ideally something that reminds you of the host/hostess. With so many scrumptious recipes, here is a full-proof Greek Party Menu with three different entree options that promises to please each and every palate while taking you and your guests on a well-deserved culinary vacation:

Tomatoes, cucumbers and feta are a match made by Greek gods! Enjoy this under the hot Greek sun on the sultry beaches and maritime ports of the decadently popular Ionian or Cycladic islands.

HORIATIKI GREEK SALAD
Prepared in 15 minutes or less.
¾ lbs tomatoes, seeded, quartered
2 cups diced seeded peeled cucumber
½ green pepper, thinly sliced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
1 tsp capers
3 tbs extra-virgin olive oil
1½ tbs red wine vinegar
½ tsp fresh or dried oregano
¼ cup fresh feta cheese (option to place atop salad intact)
6-8 pitted Kalamata olives

Cut all the ingredients except the olives into pieces and arrange in a dish with the tomatoes first, then the onion, pepper, cucumber and lastly the Feta cheese. Garnish with the olives. Before serving, sprinkle with oregano, salt, olive oil and red wine vinegar. (Can be made 2 hours ahead. Serve with toasted pita.) Serves 4.

Cheese pizza, vanilla ice cream and lettuce? No! Load on the mushrooms, the sprinkles and the bacon & goat cheese, variety is the spice of life! Your spice this season is color, as you well know but spend the smallest amount of your budget on this because as you know the trend will come and go like an old boyfriend! Make your wardrobe work for you by investing in key pieces and adding the bright orange cuff bracelet or Kelly green clutch as the afterthought.

If you’re lucky enough to have a great basic closet already, take your budget and shop like a 6 year old- bright and big! Cobalt Di Orsay shoe or coral tote with the item on the “wedge”of fashion this season, a wedge espadrille sandal!

If you’re not feeling the closet love, focus on some key updates like a dolman sleeve top, pegged leg jeans or don’t freak, SHORTS! Yes moms can wear shorts this season, not the “let’s go workout” type but more the “let’s put a pair of platform sandals on and go to drinks at the last minute” shorts. Flat front or pleated depending on what your trying to accomplish (or hide), with a cuff hem and in a neutral color (linen, charcoal etc..) can take you to dinner or a last minute meeting with nothing more than a blazer and clutch added!

Purely corporate are you? Lighten up! As in your choice of tops, go a lighter, more flowing route to spruce up the office décor, add a killer, thick, opposite color belt and cinch-in an old tired dress or loose top you already have!

Closet space might be limited as well as budgets but don’t limit yourself by sticking with the same looks your rocked last spring. Rocking last seasons threads is like getting a glass of wine from last nights bottle – was good last night but today has lost it’s luster, even the cork had to be forced to go back in.....

ANGEL HAIR WITH OLIVE OIL AND LEMON

4 TO 6 SERVINGS

This is one of my favorite late-night dinners when I feel like something substantial but not too heavy. It’s one of the easiest dishes to make directly from your pantry with a couple of staple items. It takes just 20 minutes—even less once you know the routine. It’s delicious in its simplicity, with the fruity taste from the extra-virgin olive oil, the earthiness from the toasted walnuts, the slight saltiness from the fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and the clean citrus flavor from the fresh lemons. Of course I like to shake this delicate bowl up with some heat, so I always have my red pepper flakes on hand.

1 tablespoon kosher salt plus additional for sprinkling

8 ounces angel hair pasta

4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

2 tablespoons chopped

Italian parsley

2 cups Parmesan cheese

¹⁄3 cup chopped toasted walnuts

Walnut oil or olive oil

Cracked pepper

Kosher salt

2 teaspoons red pepper flakes (optional)

2 tablespoons chopped parsley

2 tablespoons chopped mint

Zest from 1 lemon

1 lemon, cut into wedges

Preheat the oven to 200°F. When the oven has reached 200°F, turn it off and place the 6 pasta bowls you are going to use for serving the angel hair inside.

Fill a pasta pot with at least 2 ½ quarts of water, and add 1 tablespoon of kosher salt. When the water has come to a boil, add the angel hair. Angel hair cooks quickly (about 3 to 5 minutes); do not overcook. The pasta continues to cook after you take it out of the water, and you don’t want to end up with soft, soggy pasta, so test for doneness by tasting a few strands. They should still have a tiny crunch when you bite into them.

Take the angel hair out of the water with tongs, and place it in a warm pasta bowl. Do not discard the pasta water.

Into the bowl with the angel hair, add the olive oil, lemon juice, and parsley. Mix gently with the tongs; then add a ladleful of the pasta water and mix again.

Remove the pasta bowls from the oven, and divide the angel hair among them. Sprinkle a generous amount of Parmesan cheese (2 to 3 tablespoons) over the top of each serving. Add about 2 teaspoons of chopped toasted walnuts to each serving, and drizzle on some walnut or olive oil. Crack pepper to taste and sprinkle a teeny amount of kosher salt and red pepper flakes over each serving. Distribute the parsley, mint, and lemon zest evenly over the servings, and serve with a lemon wedge.

What is your best advice to a budding entrepreneur?

My best advice for anyone just starting their own business is PATIENCE! I unfortunately did not take this advice well and often pushed things to move much more quickly than I should have and ended up not getting the results I intended. In the beginning stages you are so excited and energized that you can't help but want things to move fast. You're afraid someone will take your idea... your afraid you might run out of time or maybe you just want the success of it all to come now. Buckle up... sit tight and enjoy the ride 'cause it's a long one. Take the time to build your network of supporters, research and most of all, trust. Good luck!

What is a must-have site or resource all entrepreneurs should know and follow?

I would have to say the best resource for me has been social media specifically Twitter and Facebook. I'm sure you might have heard that before, but it is an essential part of anyone's successful business right now especially with the economy. It is here where you connect with like-minded people, groups and events that support what you are doing all for free. Not to mention you have the capability to connect with people outside of your tiny local hometown and network with people across the country. I'm not sure I would have gotten this far without it.

Quote or Book ‘to live by’

Aaahhh, yes, my two favorite quotes I live by are: "Where there's a will, there's a way." and "Be the change you want to see in the world." I am also a fan of Eckhart Tolle's book, The Book of Now - these quotes and book have encouraged me to find strength in myself to see that my message filters through to as many people as I can reach and even pushing my limits beyond my comfort zone, and all the while enjoying every moment of it. Well almost every moment. :)
